Juventus agree deadline-day move for Senegal midfielder Pape Matar Sarr

Juventus have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr on loan on the final day of the transfer window.

The deal includes an option for Juventus to make the move permanent, with the Serie A club able to recruit the 23-year-old midfielder for €28m.

Sarr will leave Tottenham Hotspur temporarily after Juventus and the Premier League club settled the terms of the transfer before the close of the market. The Senegal international is joining the Italian side for the current spell on loan, while the purchase option gives Juventus the opportunity to retain him on a permanent basis.

The agreement was completed on the last day of the transfer window, bringing an end to the immediate uncertainty over Sarr’s next club. Juventus have secured his services for the loan period and hold the right to complete a permanent transfer if they decide to activate the clause.

Should Juventus take up that option, the total fee for Sarr will be €28m. The 23-year-old’s move therefore gives the club flexibility: he will initially play for Juventus under the loan arrangement, while a longer-term deal remains possible at the agreed price.

Sarr is a Senegal international and a midfielder who had been part of the Tottenham Hotspur squad before the agreement was reached. He will now continue his career in Italy with Juventus, one of the country’s most successful clubs.

The Turin-based side are 36-time champions of Italy and have chosen to include a purchase option in the agreement rather than commit immediately to a permanent transfer. That structure allows Juventus to assess the midfielder during his loan spell before deciding whether to pay the €28m required to sign him outright.

For Tottenham Hotspur, the agreement means Sarr departs on a temporary basis, with the possibility that the move could become permanent if Juventus exercise their option. For the player, the deal represents a switch from Spurs to Juventus at the conclusion of the transfer window.

The final-day agreement confirms that Sarr’s next club will be Juventus, initially through a loan deal. His future beyond that arrangement will depend on whether Juventus choose to use the €28m option and complete his transfer permanently.
