Nathanael Mbuku emerges as Sint-Truiden target after Augsburg return

Nathanael Mbuku, the DR Congo and French winger at Augsburg, has been linked with a move to Belgian side Sint-Truiden.

The 24-year-old is back with the Bundesliga club after completing a season-long loan at Montpellier, where he spent the 2025-26 campaign. The proposed destination is Sint-Truiden of the Jupiler Pro League, although there is no indication that a deal has been agreed.

Mbuku has yet to make an appearance for Augsburg in the 2026-27 Bundesliga or DFB-Pokal, with both competitions having recorded one possible match so far. He was involved at the 2026 World Cup, making three appearances and starting half of those matches, but did not score.

A left winger who prefers his left foot, Mbuku joined Augsburg from Stade Reims on a free transfer in January 2023. Since then, he has spent time away from the club on loan, including spells at Saint-Etienne, Dinamo Zagreb and Montpellier. His latest return to Augsburg came on 30 June, following the end of the Montpellier loan.

Mbuku’s current market value is listed at €2m. The rumour would represent a move from Germany’s top flight to Belgium, with his lack of playing time at Augsburg this season forming the immediate context around the reported interest.
