Mokwena says Pyramids midfielder Lasheen has the quality to play for Real Madrid

Rhulani Mokwena has said Pyramids FC midfielder Mohanad Lasheen has the ability to play for Real Madrid, after praising the Egypt international following his side’s 1-0 victory over Al Masry in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Mokwena, the South African manager of Pyramids FC, described Lasheen as a player with exceptional qualities and suggested that his ability could have taken him to one of the biggest clubs in world football.

“Lasheen is a wonderful player, he can play for Real Madrid, perhaps if he were younger,” Mokwena said after the match.

The victory continued an ideal start to the league campaign for Pyramids FC. They have won each of their first three matches, giving them nine points and leaving them at the top of the Egyptian Premier League with a perfect record.

Lasheen was not the only Pyramids FC player to receive praise from Mokwena. The manager also highlighted goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy, describing him as an outstanding goalkeeper who does not make mistakes.

He also identified Ahmed Sami and Mahmoud Marei as the best defensive partnership in the Egyptian Premier League. Mokwena praised the pair’s ability to build attacks from the back and play the ball out of defence.

The South African also questioned why Sami and Marei had not been selected for the Egypt national team, in what amounted to a clear message to the coaching staff led by Hossam Hassan.

Mokwena further included Morocco international Mohamed Chibi among the best players in the Egyptian Premier League, continuing his strong assessment of the talent within his squad.

However, it was his comment about Lasheen that attracted the most attention. The Pyramids FC manager believes the midfielder possesses technical qualities that go beyond the level of domestic football and could allow him to compete at one of the highest levels in the game.

Lasheen has considerable international experience with Egypt and was described as one of the key players during the Pharaohs’ World Cup campaign. He was part of the generation that achieved the country’s run to the last 16 before losing to Argentina in a dramatic match.

Mokwena’s comments came after Pyramids FC maintained their perfect record, with the narrow win over Al Masry ensuring they remain top of the table after three rounds. His assessment placed particular attention on Lasheen, while also drawing focus to the defensive partnership of Sami and Marei, the performances of El Shenawy and the contribution of Chibi.
