French-Cameroonian midfielder Mathis Amougou makes Toulouse switch from Strasbourg

French-Cameroonian midfielder Mathis Amougou has joined Toulouse from Strasbourg on loan, completing a move that brings the 20-year-old back into Ligue 1.

The central midfielder moved to Toulouse on 1 September 2026 and will remain with the club until 30 June 2027. He joins a side competing in France’s top flight after beginning the 2026-27 campaign on Strasbourg’s books.

Amougou spent the previous season with Strasbourg after moving there from Chelsea in July 2025 for €14.5m. His spell at Chelsea followed a €15m transfer from Saint-Etienne in February 2025, underlining the rapid sequence of moves in the early stages of his senior career.

He came through at Saint-Etienne, progressing from the club’s under-17 side to its under-19 team and then Saint-Etienne B before establishing himself in the senior pathway. His transfer to Chelsea represented his first move away from the French club, while the switch to Strasbourg kept him in Ligue 1.

Amougou is listed as a central midfielder and is right-footed. Born in Le Blanc-Mesnil on 18 January 2006, he stands 1.77m tall and represents the French and Cameroonian nationalities.

He also has European honours on his record, having won the Conference League with Chelsea during the 2024-25 season. That success came during a campaign in which his club career changed significantly, with his move from Saint-Etienne to Chelsea followed by the subsequent transfer to Strasbourg.

Toulouse are Amougou’s latest club in a career that began with US Torcy before he joined Saint-Etienne’s youth structure in 2021. He later moved through the French club’s development teams before taking his first senior steps.

The loan gives Toulouse a new central midfield option for the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season, with Amougou’s temporary spell scheduled to end on 30 June 2027. Mathis Amougou has therefore completed his move from Strasbourg to Toulouse on loan.
