Marc Guiu completes €16m Chelsea transfer to RB Leipzig

Chelsea forward Marc Guiu has completed his move to RB Leipzig, signing a contract with the German club until mid-2031 in a deal worth €16m.

The transfer brings an end to Guiu’s time at Chelsea and provides Leipzig with a new attacking option following the departure of Yan Diomande. The Spanish striker had lost his place in Chelsea’s starting line-up and wanted to leave the club.

A loan move had initially been considered for Guiu, but Leipzig’s interest emerged suddenly towards the end of August. The German side then moved to complete a permanent transfer, with the €16m agreement now finalised.

Guiu will also have the opportunity to play in the Champions League after joining Leipzig. His arrival follows the club’s decision to strengthen its forward options after selling Diomande to Real Madrid earlier in the summer.

Leipzig received sufficient funds from that deal to invest in further attacking reinforcements, and Guiu has now been selected as the replacement for the player who moved to the Spanish club.

The move is also viewed as positive news for Emegha, who now has one fewer rival for the striker position at Chelsea. Guiu’s departure reduces the competition for the role while allowing the Spanish forward to continue his career in Germany.

Guiu had seen his opportunities at Chelsea diminish significantly, prompting his desire for a transfer. Although the possibility of a temporary move was discussed first, the late offer from Leipzig changed the situation and led to a permanent agreement.

The contract, which runs until the middle of 2031, underlines the long-term commitment made by Leipzig to the striker. Chelsea have formally said goodbye to Guiu, while the player begins a new chapter with a club preparing to compete in the Champions League.

His transfer completes Leipzig’s response to Diomande’s exit and gives the club another forward after the summer sale to Real Madrid. For Chelsea, it marks the departure of a striker who had fallen down the order and wanted a fresh opportunity elsewhere.
