Maher Kanzari has been relieved of his duties by the management of Esperance in Tunis following the team’s elimination in the semi-final of the African Champions League. Kanzari, who had held the position since January 2013, faced criticism for the team’s recent exit from the C1 against Orlando Pirates (1-1 after two matches).
The decision to part ways with Kanzari had been looming for several weeks. His tenure was marked by controversy, as he clashed with some club leaders and engaged in conflicts with certain ultra supporters who questioned his player choices. His actions, including a salute during a match against Etoile du Sahel, led to a league sanction.
With Kanzari’s departure, Esperance is now on the lookout for a new coach. The name of Roger Lemerre, former coach of Tunisia, is the first to be mentioned as a potential successor.
