Jack Grealish set to join Everton on season-long loan from Manchester City

Everton have reached an agreement with Manchester City to re-sign Jack Grealish on loan for the season, according to The Athletic.

The deal was agreed in the final hours of the summer transfer window and will see the 30-year-old England international return to Everton, subject to completing a medical on Tuesday morning.

Several clubs had made enquiries about Grealish, but Everton were the only side to agree to Manchester City’s terms, according to the report.

Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton, making 22 appearances for the club. He scored twice and provided six assists during that spell.

His proposed return would give Everton another opportunity to work with the former Aston Villa captain, while Manchester City would see the player continue his career away from the Etihad Stadium for a second successive season.

Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa and has made 159 appearances for the club. During that time, he has scored 17 goals and supplied 23 assists.

He has won a number of major honours with Manchester City, including the Premier League three times, the UEFA Champions League once, the UEFA Super Cup once and the FIFA Club World Cup once. He has also lifted the FA Cup once.

The England international has featured only once for Manchester City this season. He played for eight minutes in the opening match against Bournemouth and was absent from the second game against Crystal Palace as discussions over his future continued.

Everton’s agreement with Manchester City comes as the summer transfer window reaches its conclusion. The report indicates that the club moved ahead of the other sides that had shown interest by accepting the conditions set by the Premier League champions.

Grealish’s medical is scheduled for Tuesday morning, after which the loan move can be completed. As things stand, the agreement is for one season.

His return would provide Everton with a player who already knows the club and has experience of playing in their team. His contribution last season included two goals and six assists across 22 matches.

For Manchester City, Grealish’s record stands at 159 appearances, 17 goals and 23 assists since joining the club. His honours include three Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Cup.

The player’s limited involvement at the beginning of the current campaign had prompted uncertainty over his immediate future. After his brief appearance against Bournemouth, he did not play against Crystal Palace, with his next move still under discussion.

Everton are now understood to have secured an agreement that could see Grealish return to the club for another season, provided he passes his medical.
