Anton Donkor: Energie Cottbus monitor Schalke 04 II full-back

German-Ghanaian defender Anton Donkor, currently with Schalke 04 II, is the subject of reported interest from Energie Cottbus over a move to the 2. Bundesliga.

Donkor joined Schalke’s reserve side on 4 August 2026 after leaving FC Schalke 04, where he had spent the previous two seasons. The 28-year-old remains under contract with Schalke 04 II until 30 June 2027.

The left-back has made three appearances in the Regionalliga West this season, playing 210 minutes without scoring or providing an assist. He started in half of Schalke 04 II’s possible league matches and has completed 58% of the available minutes.

Donkor was part of Schalke’s German second-tier title-winning squad in the 2025-26 campaign. Before moving to Gelsenkirchen, he spent two seasons with Eintracht Braunschweig, having joined the club on a free transfer from SV Waldhof Mannheim in 2022.

A move to Cottbus would represent a return to Germany’s second tier for Donkor, who previously played at that level with Schalke and Braunschweig. The reported interest comes less than a month after his switch to Schalke 04 II, where his current deal runs through June 2027.
