Younes Baha update

Moroccan winger Younes Taha has committed his long-term future to Dutch club FC Twente after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper on the new agreement at De Grolsch Veste on Monday, with Twente also holding an option to extend the deal by another year.

The contract comes after Taha returned to Enschede from an impressive loan spell at FC Groningen last season.

Taha targets next step at Twente

Taha believes his time at Groningen helped accelerate his development after he was given regular opportunities to play.

“I am really enjoying my time at FC Twente. The loan spell last season at FC Groningen did me a lot of good. I played a lot of matches. That makes you a better player,” Taha said.

The Morocco international is now hoping to use that experience to establish himself at Twente and continue his progress.

“I have brought that experience with me to FC Twente. Now I want to take the next step. This new contract makes that possible. I am really looking forward to the coming seasons at De Grolsch Veste with this amazing crowd,” he added.

Ten Hag backs Morocco winger

FC Twente manager Erik ten Hag expressed his satisfaction after the club secured Taha’s future.

The Dutch coach said Twente had been keen to extend the winger’s contract because of his development and the potential he continues to show.

“I have had a lot of contact with Younes and his management over the past period. We have always intended to extend Younes’ contract, because we believe he is not finished here yet,” the Dutch manager said.

Ten Hag believes Taha can still develop significantly and make an important contribution to the club’s ambitions.

“We know what potential Younes has; that has been confirmed once again in the last few matches. It is great that the new contract is now in place. We are convinced that Younes can continue to develop here and that he will help us realize our ambitions,” he added.

Impressive Groningen campaign

Taha initially joined FC Twente from PEC Zwolle in 2023 before moving to Groningen on loan for the 2025-26 campaign.

The temporary move provided him with regular first-team football and produced impressive numbers.

He scored six goals and supplied 10 assists in 33 appearances for Groningen, performances which helped convince Twente to retain him as part of their plans.

With his future now secured until 2029, Taha will look to build on that form and establish himself as an important attacking player for FC Twente.
