Morocco U17 women win bronze at Mediterranean Games after beating Slovenia

Morocco’s women’s under-17 national team claimed the bronze medal in football at the 20th Mediterranean Games after a 3-1 victory over Slovenia on Monday.

The Moroccan youngsters secured third place in the women’s football competition with a convincing win at the Franco Venuzzi Stadium in Brindisi, Italy.

The success means Morocco have now collected two football medals at the Games, after the men’s under-20 team also won bronze on Sunday.

Morocco take control early

Morocco made the stronger start and took the lead in the 15th minute through Nesma Mouradi.

Slovenia responded after falling behind, but Morocco maintained their advantage into the second half as they looked to secure a place on the podium.

Anissa Hamdani then doubled Morocco’s lead in the 69th minute, putting the North Africans in a commanding position.

Bousahaba seals bronze

Morocco effectively put the result beyond doubt nine minutes later when Leila Bousahaba scored their third goal in the 78th minute.

Slovenia managed a consolation goal, but Morocco held on to secure a 3-1 victory and finish third in the competition.

The bronze medal adds to Morocco’s growing presence in Mediterranean Games football and gives the country’s women’s youth side a podium finish in Italy.

Second football medal for Morocco

The result also gives Morocco their second football bronze medal at the 20th Mediterranean Games.

The men’s under-20 national team had secured bronze a day earlier, meaning both Moroccan youth sides have ended their respective football competitions with medals.
