Hamza Abdelkarim named Barcelona squad

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has named his squad for the La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, with Egyptian youngster Hamza Abdelkarim once again included among the first-team players.

The Catalan giants will welcome Rayo Vallecano to Camp Nou on Monday night in the third round of the Spanish top flight, as the club look to maintain their perfect start to the new league campaign.

The Blaugrana have bagged six points from their opening two matches after recording victories over Elche and Athletic Club. Hansi Flick’s side have also kept clean sheets in both games, giving them an encouraging start to their title defence.

One of the notable inclusions in Flick’s squad is Abdelkarim, who continues to train and travel with the senior team following his move to Barcelona.

The Egyptian forward was named among the substitutes in Barcelona’s first two league matches against Elche and Athletic Club but did not make an appearance in either game.

The Rayo Vallecano fixture could therefore provide another opportunity for the 18-year-old to make his competitive debut for the Catalan giants, although he faces strong competition for a place in Flick’s attacking options.

Barcelona are also reportedly close to completing the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, with an official announcement expected once the remaining formalities are completed. His potential arrival could further increase the competition for attacking positions.
