‘I’m very happy’ – Ademola Lookman reacts after opening Atletico Madrid scoring account
Ademola Lookman has expressed his delight after opening his goalscoring account for Atletico Madrid this season in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Sevilla.
The Nigeria international struck in the 26th minute to double Atletico’s advantage and help Diego Simeone’s side secure a valuable three points.
Lookman was pleased with Atletico’s overall display, particularly the way the team executed its game plan and remained clinical at key moments.
“I’m very happy with the three points, of course,” Lookman told Atletico’s official website.
“We played very well today. We were very sharp in the right moments.
“Good to get off the mark, of course. I’m happy to win and that’s the most important thing.”
Lookman hails Atletico’s unity
The forward also highlighted the team’s collective performance, praising the understanding between Atletico’s attacking players as they combined effectively against Sevilla.
“But also playing together as a team today, in those moments, was great. Yeah, I’m happy,” he added.
Lookman also relished the opportunity to play alongside Atletico’s leading attacking talents, pointing to the shared mentality within the squad as a key factor in their performance.
“Obviously, top players interlinking together, playing with the same mindset. Of course, I’m happy to play with the guys.”
The goal represents an important early milestone for Lookman as he continues to settle into life at Atletico Madrid.
His ability to operate across the attacking line gives Simeone another dynamic option in the final third, while his pace and directness provide an added threat against opposing defences.
After getting his first league goal of the season, Lookman will now hope Saturday’s breakthrough can provide momentum for the matches ahead as Atletico look to maintain their push at the top end of the table.
