Senegal’s transfer elite set for dramatic reshuffle as summer spending soars

Senegal’s transfer record books could be rewritten during an extraordinary few days, with six members of the Lions of Teranga potentially completing the biggest deals in the country’s football history in the summer 2026 window.

Nicolas Jackson, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Ibrahim Mbaye have already moved for substantial fees, while Lamine Camara, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr are all involved in negotiations that could take the total value of Senegal’s leading transfers to a new level.

For much of the past decade, Sadio Mane’s move to Liverpool and Kalidou Koulibaly’s transfer to Chelsea – both worth about €40m – were the benchmark deals involving Senegalese players.

That hierarchy has now changed significantly.

Aston Villa’s signing of Nicolas Jackson has made him the most expensive Senegalese player ever. The Premier League club are understood to have paid about €76m, including bonuses, for the striker, who will reunite with Unai Emery, his former manager at Villarreal.

Aston Villa have also agreed to pay up to €55m, including add-ons, to Paris Saint-Germain for 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye. The agreement makes the young Senegal international the most expensive player ever sold directly from PSG’s academy.

Another completed deal has taken place within the Premier League. El Hadji Malick Diouf has left relegated West Ham to join Brentford in a transfer that could reach about €46m once bonuses are included.

The three completed moves already amount to almost €177m.

And the spending could rise considerably before the transfer window closes.

Lamine Camara is edging closer to a move to Chelsea, with an agreement worth about €45m including bonuses reportedly reached with Monaco. Only some details are still to be finalised.

The 22-year-old midfielder started Monaco’s 2-0 victory over Marseille on Sunday. It could prove to have been his final appearance for the club.

Iliman Ndiaye is even closer to a high-profile switch, with Tottenham having reached an agreement with Everton worth about £60m, or close to €70m.

According to Taggat, Arsenal could still enter the race for the former Marseille player, potentially turning the deal into a fierce London derby and pushing the transfer fee higher. A move to Tottenham or Arsenal would place Ndiaye directly among the three most expensive Senegalese players in history.

Ismaila Sarr could complete the extraordinary sequence of deals.

Liverpool have already made an opening offer of £50m for the Crystal Palace winger, but it was rejected. Palace value their player at between £55m and £60m, a figure that could amount to almost €70m.

Sarr is reported to have given his approval to a move to Liverpool. If the transfer goes through, he could command an even higher fee than the amount Galatasaray had been planning to pay for him.

Should the three deals still under discussion be completed for the figures being reported, Jackson, Ndiaye, Sarr, Mbaye, Diouf and Camara would make up the six most expensive transfers in the history of Senegalese football.

Remarkably, all six could be completed during the same transfer window.

The proposed deals underline the growing market value of Senegal’s leading players in European football and reflect the country’s increasing influence at the highest level of the game.
