Barcelona interest in Julian Alvarez revived by Atletico paperwork claim

Spanish media figure Jota Jordi has made a fresh claim about Julian Alvarez’s future, saying Atletico Madrid gave the Argentina forward written approval to negotiate a move to Barcelona.

The claim comes with the transfer window entering its final hours, amid growing tension over whether Alvarez will remain at Atletico Madrid or leave the club.

Speaking on the television programme El Chiringuito, during a heated discussion with Maria Trisac and Damian Gonzalez, Jota Jordi said Atletico had done more than simply allow Alvarez to speak publicly about his situation. He claimed the club had also provided the player with written authorisation to discuss a possible transfer to Barcelona.

Jota Jordi said he would publish evidence and documents supporting his version of events on 2 September. According to his account, one of the conditions Atletico Madrid imposed on Alvarez was that he could talk about his future, while the club would give him the green light to leave for Barcelona.

The Spanish media figure also argued that the situation behind closed doors at Atletico is different from the public position presented by the club. He said statements from manager Diego Simeone and Atletico officials expressing their desire to keep the Argentina international do not reflect what is happening internally.

According to Jota Jordi, Atletico Madrid are considering selling Alvarez for financial reasons. He also claimed the club was concerned about the consequences of retaining a player who was not fully convinced about continuing in the squad.

He said Atletico’s management had spoken to Alvarez and people close to him about the possibility of a departure, with Arsenal among the clubs discussed as a potential destination.

However, Jota Jordi claimed Alvarez would reject a move to any club other than Barcelona if he leaves Atletico Madrid. That stance, he said, has kept the deal unresolved as the transfer deadline approaches.

Barcelona remain strongly involved in the situation, according to the Spanish pundit. He said the Catalan club are ready to act quickly if Atletico decide to make Alvarez available for transfer.

Jota Jordi believes the remaining hours of the window could bring an unexpected development in one of the summer’s most disputed transfer sagas. His claims have added to uncertainty over a player whose future has remained one of the main talking points around Atletico Madrid.

The Madrid club are also continuing to reshape their squad before the market closes. Atletico are searching for attacking solutions and are considering the possible departure of Alexander Sørloth, while Alvarez’s situation remains the most pressing issue at the club.

Jota Jordi ended his appearance by insisting that he had personally seen documents and messages connected to the proposed transfer. He promised to release them as evidence of his claims.

Attention will now focus on the final hours of the window, when it should become clearer whether the “green light” described by Jota Jordi exists and whether it could ultimately take Alvarez to Barcelona.
