Raja Casablanca part ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi

Raja Club Athletic have parted ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi following weeks of tension between the Tunisian coach and the club’s sporting director.

Raja president Jawad Ziyat informed Nabi’s agent of the decision after receiving a recommendation from Portuguese sporting director Rogério Matias, although the Moroccan club have yet to make an official announcement.

According to Le Matin Sports, the disagreement centred on the club’s management of the summer transfer window, particularly Nabi’s influence over recruitment.

Nabi had expected to have greater authority in identifying and approving new signings, as had been agreed before the club’s partnership structure was finalised. However, he felt his role in the recruitment process had been significantly reduced.

“I don’t see eye to eye with Raja’s sporting director. I disagree with his overall policy and how he handles transfers,” Nabi told SNRTnews.

“I asked management to recruit high-caliber talent, but they ultimately signed players I had no use for,” he added.

The handling of veteran defender Badr Benoun also contributed to the deterioration in relations.

Raja executives had considered ending their association with the Moroccan defender, but Nabi opposed the decision and argued that Benoun should remain at the club because of his experience and commitment.

Nabi’s departure is understood to have resulted from professional disagreements rather than a personal dispute.

The former AS FAR coach had previously asked the club to clearly define the responsibilities shared between him and Matias, particularly regarding player recruitment, but the issue was not resolved.

Tensions increased after Matias became involved in negotiations with several coaches as potential replacements for Nabi, prompting the Tunisian to seek greater clarity over the club’s sporting structure.

Ziyat has since decided to step back from sporting matters during the current transfer window as Raja begin the process of restructuring their technical team and establishing a new direction.
