Rennes push to sign Senegal striker Boulaye Dia from Lazio

French club Rennes are making a late push to sign Senegal international Boulaye Dia from Lazio as they look to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes.

The Ligue 1 side are in active talks over a possible move for the 29-year-old centre-forward, according to Ouest-France.

Rennes already have Estéban Lepaul in their squad but are seeking greater depth in attack as they prepare for a season that will include both Ligue 1 and the Europa League.

Rennes need more firepower

Rennes’ attacking options have been stretched following the departure of Switzerland international Breel Embolo.

New arrivals Issa Soumaré and Eliezer Mayenda have yet to fully settle into the team, leaving the club looking for another experienced option up front.

Dia has therefore emerged as a target as Rennes attempt to strengthen their squad on Deadline Day.

Dia looking for fresh start

The Senegalese striker endured a difficult spell with Lazio last season, making only 14 starts and registering three goal contributions.

His limited involvement in Rome has opened the possibility of a move, with Rennes offering Dia a chance to return to regular first-team football in France.

The forward previously played for Reims, where he established himself in Ligue 1 before moving on to Salernitana and subsequently Lazio.

Late move could reshape Lazio attack

Dia’s potential departure would also have implications for Lazio’s plans in attack.

The Italian club have already identified Estoril’s Moroccan striker Yanis Begraoui as a possible replacement, with his arrival dependent on Dia completing a move away from Rome.

Rennes must now reach an agreement with Lazio if they are to secure the Senegal international before the transfer deadline.
