Champions League draw sets up blockbuster league phase

The 2026-27 UEFA Champions League league phase has produced a series of high-profile fixtures, with Paris Saint-Germain drawn against Barcelona and Manchester City, while Real Madrid will face Inter, Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven.

The draw marks the third season of the competition’s new format, with Paris Saint-Germain entering as the holders after winning the previous two editions.

A total of 36 teams were divided into four pots of nine. Each club will play eight matches against two teams from each pot, with four games at home and four away.

At the end of the league phase, the top eight sides in the table will qualify automatically for the last 16. Teams finishing ninth to 16th will enter play-offs against clubs placed 17th to 24th, with the winners taking the remaining eight places in the knockout stage.

The teams finishing ninth and 10th will be drawn against one of the sides in 23rd or 24th, with the same process applying to the other positions.

Viking, Sabah FK and LASK will make their Champions League debuts after qualifying through the play-offs. Como are also appearing in the competition for the first time after securing direct qualification.

The match dates will be confirmed on Saturday, 29 August, on the UEFA website.
