Lars Veldwijk leaves Al-Nahda after brief spell

South African-Dutch striker Lars Veldwijk has joined the ranks of unattached players after leaving Al-Nahda, bringing his short spell with the Omani club to an end.

The 35-year-old centre-forward departed Al-Nahda on 30 August 2026, having arrived from Emirates Club only six weeks earlier. He joined Al-Nahda as a free agent after leaving Emirates Club, but no fee has been recorded for his latest departure.

Veldwijk’s move adds another chapter to a career that has taken him across the Netherlands, England, Belgium, Norway, South Korea, Spain and the United Arab Emirates. Standing at 1.97m and favouring his right foot, he has played as a central striker throughout his senior career.

The forward has been particularly productive in the Netherlands’ second tier, scoring 68 goals in 107 Keuken Kampioen Divisie appearances and providing 21 assists. He also scored 22 times in 71 Eredivisie matches, while recording 31 goals and 17 assists in 93 K League 1 appearances.

Veldwijk’s career honours include winning the South Korean title with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors during the 2019-20 season. He also helped SBV Excelsior secure promotion to the Dutch top flight in 2013-14, when he finished as the Jupiler League’s leading scorer with 30 goals.

His recent career has involved frequent changes of club. After leaving Suwon FC in September 2023, Veldwijk joined Spanish side Castellon in February 2024. He moved to Thailand’s BG Pathum United later that year before switching to Gulf United FC in July 2025.

The striker then joined Dibba Al-Hisn in January 2026 and moved to Emirates Club in another free transfer later that month. His spell with Emirates ended in July, when he signed for Al-Nahda.

Veldwijk has now left Al-Nahda and is without a club following the completed transfer on 30 August 2026.
