Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi granted permission to negotiate Ajax move

Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has reportedly been granted permission by Girona to travel to the Netherlands and open negotiations with Ajax over a possible transfer.

According to reports, Girona have given the midfielder the green light to travel to Amsterdam as discussions over his future gather pace during the current summer transfer window.

Ounahi’s future at Girona remains uncertain, with the 26-year-old attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe and the Middle East. However, Ajax have now emerged as one of the strongest contenders for his signature and are reportedly keen to reach an agreement for the Moroccan.

The Dutch giants could have an advantage in negotiations because of their existing relationship with Girona head coach Michel Sánchez. The Spanish coach previously worked with Ounahi at Girona and is believed to be familiar with the midfielder’s qualities and potential.

Ounahi enjoyed a positive spell under Sánchez despite Girona ultimately suffering relegation. His performances during that period helped maintain interest in the Morocco international, who has already gained significant experience at both club and international level.

A move to Ajax could provide Ounahi with an opportunity to relaunch his career in the Netherlands and play an important role for one of the country’s biggest clubs.

However, Ajax are not the only club monitoring his situation. English Championship sides Hull City and Ipswich Town have reportedly shown interest, while Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad have also been linked with a move for the midfielder.

Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven were previously mentioned among Ounahi’s potential destinations, although subsequent reports in the Netherlands indicated that the club had not made approach to sign him.

For Girona, the player’s potential departure could also help the club address its financial situation. The Spanish side are reportedly keen to reduce their wage bill and would welcome a permanent transfer that allows them to generate income from Ounahi’s sale.

The amount Girona would demand for the midfielder remains unclear, with negotiations expected to determine his eventual market value.

Ounahi’s trip to Amsterdam therefore represents an important development in the transfer saga. While no final agreement has yet been confirmed, his permission to negotiate with Ajax suggests that the Dutch club are seriously exploring the possibility of bringing the Moroccan international to Amsterdam.
