Habib Diallo linked with Le Mans transfer

Le Mans FC are considering a move for Senegal international Habib Diallo as they look to strengthen their attack, with the FC Metz striker potentially set for a return to Ligue 1.

Diallo, who captained Metz towards the end of last season, was unable to prevent the club from being relegated to Ligue 2. The 30-year-old has since featured in the opening stages of the new campaign but his position at Metz has become less certain.

The Senegalese forward played in each of Metz’s first two matches of the season but was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw away to Annecy.

His limited involvement has raised the possibility of a departure before the summer transfer window closes.

According to L’Equipe, Le Mans have identified Diallo as a potential addition to their attacking options. The club, promoted to Ligue 1 this season, are reportedly considering the experienced striker as they prepare for the demands of top-flight football.

A move would give Diallo the opportunity to return to Ligue 1 after his previous spell in the division.

The Senegal international has 41 caps and nine goals for his country and brings considerable experience to the position.

Diallo was an important figure for Metz at the end of the previous campaign, wearing the captain’s armband as the club fought to remain in Ligue 1.

However, their relegation to Ligue 2 changed the circumstances around his future.

Although he has already made two appearances this season, Diallo does not appear to be completely part of coach Luc Holtz’s plans, increasing the possibility that he could leave Metz before the transfer window shuts.

Le Mans’ interest could provide him with an immediate route back to France’s top division.

The newly promoted club are looking to reinforce their attacking department, and Diallo’s experience at both domestic and international level is understood to have made him a player of interest.

The Senegalese striker has also previously played for Strasbourg, meaning a move to Le Mans would represent another chapter in his French career.

For Metz, a potential departure would bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding one of their experienced players after the club’s relegation.

Diallo’s omission from the squad for the draw against Annecy has added to the speculation over his future.

The striker’s next destination remains undecided, but Le Mans are not the only club monitoring his situation.

A Turkish club is also reportedly interested in signing the Senegal international.

With the summer transfer window approaching its conclusion, Diallo could therefore have several options if he decides to leave Metz.

For Le Mans, securing his services would provide their squad with an experienced forward as they begin life in Ligue 1.

For Diallo, the move could offer the chance to return to the top flight and play a more prominent role after his reduced involvement at Metz.

The Senegal international’s future is therefore one to watch as the transfer window enters its final stages.
