Oliver Glasner disappointed as Nottingham Forest are held by Liverpool

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner said he was disappointed his side did not beat Liverpool after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield in the second round of the Premier League.

Forest led the way in creating chances and produced a performance Glasner was proud of, but the Austrian coach felt his team had done enough to take all three points from the champions.

“I wanted to get the full points. I am proud of the performance we gave and the number of chances we created, but I feel disappointed that we did not win,” Glasner told beIN SPORTS.

The result was Liverpool’s second successive 2-2 draw at the start of the season, following the same scoreline against Newcastle United. They now have two points from their opening two matches.

Liverpool became only the second team in Premier League history to begin a campaign with two consecutive 2-2 draws, after Everton achieved the same record in the 2014-15 season.

Their most recent previous start with two draws came in 2022-23, a campaign Liverpool finished in fifth place.

Glasner acknowledged that Forest’s defensive performance deteriorated during the second half, allowing Liverpool to recover with two goals scored in a similar fashion.

“Our defensive performance dropped after the 60th minute, and that cost us because Liverpool managed to score two goals in a similar way, with repeated mistakes,” he said.

Dan Ndoye and Morgan Gibbs-White scored Forest’s two goals, while Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz were on target for Liverpool.

Despite surrendering the advantage, Glasner said the performance offered encouragement as his players continue to adapt to his tactical approach.

“This match gives us confidence. The players are adapting to the way of playing that I want,” he added.

The match also produced Forest’s first points under Glasner, who has recently taken charge as the club’s new manager. The result leaves Liverpool with two points from their opening two league fixtures, while Forest can take belief from their display and the opportunities they created at Anfield.

For Glasner, however, the immediate reaction was shaped by the result rather than the performance. Forest had threatened Liverpool throughout the contest, but the manager believed defensive lapses after the hour mark prevented his side from claiming a notable victory away from home.
