FIFA unveils schedule for 2026 World Cup, kickstarting with Mexico vs. TBD

FIFA has revealed the match schedule for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will commence on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, with the Mexican national team taking the field in the opening match.

June 12 will mark Canada’s historic hosting of its first-ever World Cup match, while on the same day, the United States will play their first match in Los Angeles.

The final will be hosted at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, on July 19.

The 2026 World Cup will see the participation of 48 teams for the first time in the competition’s history, with a record number of matches totaling 104 games to be played across 16 cities.

The Estadio Azteca will become the first stadium to host the World Cup opening match three times, having previously hosted the kickoff of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments.

It also hosted the finals of both editions, with Brazil defeating Italy (4-1) and Argentina overcoming West Germany (3-2), respectively.

The match distribution was announced in a live television broadcast in North America, featuring American comedian Kevin Hart, Canadian rapper Drake, and American businesswoman and reality TV star Kim Kardashian.

The unveiling of the World Cup match schedule sets the stage for what promises to be a historic and exhilarating tournament, bringing together nations from across the globe in the pursuit of football glory.
