Eintracht Frankfurt nears deal for Niels Nkounkou transfer

Eintracht Frankfurt may finally have found a buyer for Niels Nkounkou.

According to L’Equipe, OGC Nice is closely monitoring the 25-year-old left-back and is considering a loan move before the transfer window closes.

Nice could turn to Nkounkou as a replacement for Melvin Bard, who might still leave the Ligue 1 club. The French side already signed Elye Wahi from Frankfurt earlier this summer, and the links now suggest another potential deal between the two clubs.

Nkounkou started his career with Cergy Pontoise, coming through the club’s youth ranks. He signed for Ligue 1 giants Marseille in 2017. As a promising youngster, Nkounkou played regularly for Marseille’s B team, routinely training with the senior side and featuring on the bench twice for the first team during the 2019-20 season.

For Frankfurt, the situation is straightforward: Nkounkou no longer plays a role in the squad plans and has already been left out of the team. The defender spent last season on loan at Torino, so another temporary move would fit his recent career path.

A return to France could give him a cleaner route back into regular football, while Frankfurt would benefit by clearing space in a position where he is no longer needed. The next few days should show whether Nice decides to act and make the connection more concrete.
