Bayer Leverkusen send Axel Tape to Levante on loan

Bayer Leverkusen defender Axel Tape will spend the coming season on loan at Spanish top-flight club Levante, according to a report by RMC Sport.

The 19-year-old defender is expected to be used primarily in midfield, giving him an opportunity to develop through regular first-team football in La Liga.

Tape’s natural position is in central defence, although he can also operate on the right side of the back line. His versatility has been a useful asset, but competition for places at Leverkusen has made a temporary move the most practical option for all parties.

The situation has become particularly difficult for Tape following Bayer’s pursuit of Racing Strasbourg right-back Guela Doue. With the 23-year-old close to joining Leverkusen, opportunities at right-back would be even more limited for the teenager.

A season at Levante could therefore offer Tape a clearer route to minutes and a fresh tactical challenge. Playing in midfield would also allow him to demonstrate his composure on the ball, physical presence and defensive awareness in a new role.

For Leverkusen, the loan provides a chance for a promising player to gain experience without permanently leaving the club. Tape’s progress in Spain will be closely watched as Bayer consider his long-term place in the squad.
