Habib Beye emerges as surprise Senegal coaching option

Habib Beye could still emerge as a surprise option for Senegal, even though Patrick Vieira remains the favorite to take charge of the national team.

The delay in Vieira’s appointment has kept the door slightly open, and that is enough to revive discussion around the former Marseille defender.

The Senegalese federation announced an agreement with Vieira on August 18, but the move has not yet been finalized. That gap has become important because the next international window is approaching fast, leaving little time for the new coach to assemble a staff, choose players and prepare properly.

Beye was already linked with the job before Vieira moved ahead in the race. His profile remains attractive because he knows African football well and has recent experience in European management after spells with Red Star and Rennes. He is seen as a serious football man with leadership qualities and strong tactical knowledge.

For now, Vieira is still the man expected to get the post, and there is no sign that Senegal have reopened formal talks with Beye. But in a situation that still feels unfinished, any further delay could make the old candidate relevant again. Beye therefore remains a possible last-minute fallback if the current plan continues to stall.
