Cameroon U17 begin preparations for 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup

Cameroon’s U17 national team have stepped up preparations for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup with a training camp at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre in Odza.

The Young Lions have been in camp for several days under the guidance of head coach LIBIIH Thomas, as the technical team begins the process of identifying and building a competitive squad for the global tournament.

A total of 43 players have reported for the training camp, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to assess a wide pool of young talents competing for places in the final squad.

The first away training camp officially began on August 25 and will run for ten days. During the period, LIBIIH Thomas and his technical team will closely monitor the players while working on their physical condition, tactical understanding and overall performances.

The camp is an important stage in Cameroon’s preparations as the coaching staff looks to gradually shape a team capable of competing against some of the best young national teams in the world.

The U17 Lions will have their first opportunity to test themselves in competitive match situations on Friday, August 28, when they are scheduled to play two friendly matches.

The games will allow the coaching staff to assess the players in a match environment and determine which individuals are making a strong case for further involvement in the squad.

The friendly matches will also provide valuable information about the team’s strengths, weaknesses and areas that require improvement ahead of the World Cup.

Cameroon have been drawn in Group K at the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup, where they will face Mexico, Romania and Venezuela.

The group presents a challenging test for the Young Lions, with the coaching staff expected to use the coming months to develop a well-organised and competitive side capable of progressing from the group stage.

The FIFA U17 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 19 to December 13, 2026.

With the tournament approaching, the current training camp represents one of the first major steps in Cameroon’s preparations, with the 43 players hoping to impress LIBIIH Thomas and earn a place in the final World Cup squad.
