Evann Guessand targets starring role at Crystal Palace after Aston Villa loan decision

Evann Guessand has returned to Crystal Palace on a new loan deal from Aston Villa that includes an option to buy, choosing a clear route to regular first-team football with the Eagles rather than waiting for opportunities at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international previously won the UEFA Conference League during his first spell in London. His decision to go back to Crystal Palace was influenced by the confidence shown in him by the club and his strong connection with the supporters, he explained in an interview with 225foot.

Guessand faced significant competition for places at Aston Villa and did not want to settle for limited appearances under manager Unai Emery. The striker, who wears the number nine shirt for Cote d’Ivoire, wanted to establish himself as an undisputed starter and play a central role in his team’s attacking plans.

His return also gives him the chance to continue working within the tactical approach of French manager Pierre Sage. Guessand is expected to contribute more than simply finishing chances in the opposition penalty area.
