CS Vulturii complete free signing of Ghanaian centre-back James Asante

Ghanaian defender James Asante has joined Romanian club CS Vulturii from Gilortul on a free transfer, adding a 23-year-old centre-back to their squad.

Asante, born in Koforidua, Ghana, made the move after spending the opening part of the 2026-27 campaign with Gilortul. He had joined Gilortul from CS Drobeta on 1 July 2026, also on a free transfer.

The 1.85m defender began his recent spell at CS Drobeta after leaving M. Lupeni in September 2025. His move to M. Lupeni followed a spell with Semper Fi FC, which he left in March of the same year.

Asante’s recorded appearances include two matches in the Romanian Cup and one in the Liga 3 Play-Off. He played 210 minutes in the cup and a further two minutes in the play-off competition.

His arrival gives CS Vulturii another option in central defence as the club continues its preparations for the new campaign. Asante’s previous movement between Romanian clubs has all been completed without a transfer fee, and his latest switch follows the same pattern.

The defender joins a CS Vulturii side whose senior team is based in Romania. He has been listed with the club from 27 August 2026, the date on which the transfer from Gilortul was completed. No contract expiry date has been announced.

Asante’s footballing background has so far been centred on the Romanian club system, with his recent career taking him from Semper Fi FC to M. Lupeni, then CS Drobeta and Gilortul before his latest move.

The Ghanaian will now continue his career with CS Vulturii, where his principal role will be at centre-back. He arrives with experience of Romanian Cup football and Liga 3 play-off competition, having made three recorded appearances across those tournaments.

James Asante’s free transfer to CS Vulturii was completed on 27 August 2026.
