PSV Eindhoven lead race to sign Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi

PSV Eindhoven has emerged as the frontrunners for the acquisition of Morocco international midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.

As per reports, the Dutch giants have submitted an official offer to Girona for the Moroccan midfielder, with negotiations between the two clubs currently underway.

The Dutch giants are keen to reach an agreement with Girona but are reportedly not prepared to activate the €25 million release clause included in Ounahi’s contract.

Girona, meanwhile, are looking to secure a deal that would provide them with a significant financial return for one of their key assets. The club is understood to be carefully considering its options as it seeks to protect Ounahi’s market value.

PSV’s interest comes after the midfielder attracted attention from several clubs across Europe and the Middle East. Ajax, Hull City, Ipswich Town and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad have all been linked with the Moroccan in recent weeks, alongside interest from other Spanish clubs.

Ounahi’s future at Girona had already been uncertain following the club’s relegation to the Spanish second tier. His departure was widely anticipated, although he returned to the club after representing Morocco at the World Cup and subsequently taking a break.

Girona are now working to find the right solution for the player’s departure, while PSV have seemingly moved ahead of their rivals by making a concrete offer.

Mundo Deportivo reports that negotiations remain ongoing and that no final agreement has been reached. However, PSV’s proposal has placed the Dutch club in a strong position to secure Ounahi’s signature in the coming days.

A move to PSV would give Ounahi the opportunity to continue his career at a club competing at the highest level of Dutch football and potentially in European competition.

Interestingly, PSV is already a familiar destination for Girona, with the Spanish club having previously faced the Eindhoven side at their stadium. If Ounahi completes the move, he would return to a venue Girona knows well—but this time as a PSV player.
