Galatasaray raise Rafael Leao bid as Aston Villa remain in race for Milan forward

Galatasaray have increased their offer for Milan forward Rafael Leao as they attempt to complete the Portugal international’s transfer during the ongoing summer window.

According to Football Italia, the Turkish club have submitted a proposal worth 45m euros, with additional performance-related incentives included. Milan value Leao at 50m euros, but Galatasaray are attempting to bridge the gap by using bonuses that are considered relatively easy to achieve.

Personal terms are not expected to present a significant obstacle. Leao has reportedly reached an agreement with Galatasaray over a four-year contract worth 12m euros per season.

Aston Villa are also still competing to sign the 26-year-old, while Tottenham are currently viewed as outsiders in the race. Aston Villa have the financial capacity to conclude the deal after completing a series of sales during the summer.

Ezri Konsa has moved to Arsenal, Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United and Morgan Rogers has transferred to Chelsea. Ollie Watkins is also reportedly close to leaving for Al-Hilal.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery wants to add at least two players to his attack. The club are considering alternative options, including Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, as they assess how to strengthen their forward line.

Leao has rejected a move to the Saudi league, preferring either a transfer to Galatasaray or a continued stay in Italy. His contract with Milan runs until June 2028.

The forward has now returned to full team training with Milan and is preparing for Friday’s meeting with Venezia. He missed the opening round of the season because of a thigh-muscle problem.

Leao made 31 appearances for Milan in all competitions last season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists.

Milan began their Serie A campaign without the Portugal international in their squad for Sunday’s match against Torino. The Rossoneri secured a dramatic 2-1 victory in that game.

Milan will face Venezia in the second round of Serie A at San Siro on Friday. The Italian club finished fifth in the league last season with 70 points.
