MVV Maastricht bring in Dutch-Algerian winger Naim Matoug on free transfer
MVV Maastricht have completed the signing of Dutch-Algerian right winger Naim Matoug from VVV-Venlo on a free transfer.
Matoug, 23, joins the Keuken Kampioen Divisie club after two years with VVV, having moved there from Willem II’s under-21 side in July 2024. He has made 58 appearances in the Dutch second tier, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
The Grubbenvorst-born attacker is predominantly a right winger and prefers his right foot. He stands 1.76m tall and adds experience of regular senior football in the same division to MVV’s squad.
Matoug began his youth career at VVV-Venlo before joining PSV’s academy in 2018. He progressed through PSV’s youth teams and under-18 group before switching to Willem II’s under-21 side in 2021. His move to VVV three years later marked his return to senior football after his time in the academy system.
His wider record also includes 23 appearances and seven goals in the U21 Division 2 Spring competition, along with 14 appearances and two goals in the corresponding autumn competition. He has also played in the KNVB Beker.
Matoug’s arrival gives MVV a player with experience across several attacking competitions and a background in the Dutch development system. His previous senior league record includes 2,931 minutes in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, with a goal scored every 586 minutes.
The Netherlands and Algeria nationalities he holds reflect his background, although no international appearances are recorded alongside his club career. His latest switch follows a spell at VVV during which he established himself in Dutch second-tier football.
Matoug has joined MVV Maastricht on a free transfer and is contracted until 30 June 2027.
