Arouna Kone begins new French football role with US Sailly-Saillisel
Former Cote d’Ivoire international Arouna Kone has started a new chapter in his football career after joining French club US Sailly-Saillisel.
The ex-professional striker, who played for Sevilla FC and in the Premier League, has taken on two senior positions at the club. He is serving as both vice-president and sporting director.
Kone is working alongside newly appointed president David Iayadene, with the pair aiming to restructure US Sailly-Saillisel and give the club fresh momentum.
Their plans include placing a strong emphasis on the development of young local players. The club wants to provide those talents with a solid framework while also demanding the standards associated with high-level football.
Kone’s experience is already having an influence on the team. He helped US Sailly-Saillisel negotiate the opening round of the Coupe de France successfully and is expected to be involved again on Sunday, when the club plays in the second round.
His presence gives the club access to the knowledge of someone who has experienced elite football both as a player and as an international. Kone’s playing career included spells at Sevilla FC and in the Premier League before he moved into his new responsibilities in France.
At US Sailly-Saillisel, his role extends beyond administrative work. As sporting director, he will be involved in the club’s wider sporting direction, while his position as vice-president places him alongside Iayadene as they seek to rebuild the organisation.
The immediate focus remains the Coupe de France. Following the team’s progress through the first round, Kone will once again be present for Sunday’s second-round fixture, where his experience on the pitch can support the players as they continue their cup campaign.
The appointment represents a new phase for the former Cote d’Ivoire international, who is now contributing to the development of a French club away from the professional game. For US Sailly-Saillisel, the partnership between Iayadene and Kone is intended to combine new leadership with a clear focus on youth development and stronger sporting structures.
Their ambition is to create an environment in which local young players can progress, while the club seeks to relaunch itself with greater organisation and the discipline expected at the highest level.
