Marcellin Bocove secures 96% mandate to lead Benin football until 2030

Marcellin Bocove has been elected president of the Federation beninoise de football (FBF), winning an overwhelming majority of votes at the organisation’s elective general assembly.

The vote produced a decisive result. Of the 79 delegates present and voting, 76 backed Bocove, representing more than 96% of the votes cast. There was one vote against him, while two delegates abstained.

His election took place after the electoral commission approved his list as the only valid candidature submitted for the contest. That decision left Bocove as the sole candidate and ensured that the leadership vote would be settled without a direct rival.

Although the result was not contested by another candidate, the assembly still formally recorded the delegates’ decision. The figures showed the scale of the support for Bocove among those present at the meeting, with only three votes failing to support his candidacy either through opposition or abstention.

Bocove will lead the FBF for a mandate running until 2030. He will not be responsible for the federation’s administration alone, with a management team set to support him in delivering the programme presented by his list.

That team will include eight vice-presidents and 12 members of the Executive Committee. Together, they will form the leadership structure tasked with implementing Bocove’s sporting project during the new term.

His arrival marks a change at the top of the Federation beninoise de football, following the end of the previous governance. The new president now takes responsibility for guiding the country’s football administration through the period covered by the mandate.

The election was held at the Centre d’Excellence de Misserete, where the 79 participating voters cast their ballots during the elective general assembly. With the electoral commission having retained only Bocove’s list, the central question was not which candidate would prevail, but the level of support he would receive from the delegates.

The final count delivered a clear answer: 76 votes in favour, one against and two abstentions. Bocove therefore begins his tenure with a strong mandate from the assembly and an executive team of 20 officials alongside him.
