Jaouen Hadjam passes Brighton medical ahead of five-year move from Young Boys

Jaouen Hadjam is set to join Brighton after the Algeria left-back completed his medical with the English club on Tuesday, according to journalist Loic Tanzi.

The 23-year-old has now cleared a significant stage in the transfer process and, barring an unexpected complication, is expected to formally sign for Brighton in the coming hours. The move is expected to involve a five-season contract.

The transfer will also provide Young Boys with a substantial financial return. The Swiss club are due to receive a guaranteed €11m, with a further €2m potentially payable in performance-related bonuses and other conditions included in the agreement. The overall value of the deal could therefore rise to €13m.

Hadjam joined Young Boys in January 2024 after developing in France, where he came through the system and played for FC Nantes. His performances in Switzerland have increased his profile and attracted interest from Brighton, who have now moved to secure a player they believe can strengthen their options on the left side.

The Algeria international will now prepare for the demands of English football, where the pace and physical intensity of matches will present a new challenge. Hadjam’s speed, energy on the left flank and attacking ability are among the qualities that could help him establish himself gradually within Brighton’s squad.

He is currently under contract with Young Boys until June 2028 and has an estimated market value of €7m. The proposed transfer would therefore represent a significant fee above that valuation, while also giving the player the opportunity to continue his development in England.

Hadjam’s arrival comes shortly before Brighton face Chelsea in the second round of the English league season. The fixture is due to take place very soon, with the match providing an early meeting between the club the defender is expected to join and one of the division’s leading sides.

Betting company 1xBet has listed Chelsea as favourites for the game, offering odds of 2.00 for a home win. A draw is priced at 3.75, while Brighton are available at 3.60 to claim victory.

Hadjam’s transfer is not expected to affect his immediate involvement in that fixture, with the formal completion of the move still to take place. However, once the paperwork is finalised, Brighton will have added an Algeria international with experience in both French and Swiss football to their squad.
