Christopher Nkunku is closing in on a return to RB Leipzig, with the France international scheduled to undergo his medical examination on Tuesday.

According to Sky, the 28-year-old is currently not in Leipzig but is expected to complete the medical as the German club move towards finalising his return from AC Milan.

If the examination is completed without complications, the transfer is expected to be concluded shortly afterwards.

Leipzig agree €3m loan

Leipzig will reportedly pay AC Milan a €3m loan fee for Nkunku, with the agreement also including an option to buy worth €28m.

The potential permanent transfer would therefore cost significantly less than the previously reported €35m figure.

Should Leipzig decide to activate the purchase option, the club already have the next stage of the deal prepared.

According to Sky, Nkunku has already agreed the terms of a subsequent contract with Leipzig.

Nkunku keen on reunion

The French forward is reportedly determined to return to Saxony, where he previously enjoyed some of the best football of his career.

His return would give Leipzig an experienced attacking option as they look to strengthen their squad.

For now, only the medical examination and final formalities remain before Nkunku can officially begin his second spell with the German club.
