Mediterranean Games: Morocco U20 beaten by Tunisia as final group game becomes decisive

Morocco’s U20 side suffered a 1-0 defeat by Tunisia in their second Group A match at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, leaving their hopes of reaching the semi-finals in the balance.

The defeat leaves Morocco with one point from their opening two matches, putting greater importance on their final group fixture.

Rahimi strikes after the break

Tunisia took the lead four minutes after half-time when Mohamed Ryan Rahimi scored in the 49th minute.

Morocco were unable to find a response as Tunisia defended their advantage to claim all three points and move to the top of Group A with four points.

The result followed Morocco’s opening 2-2 draw against Turkey.

Tunisia had begun their campaign with a goalless draw against North Macedonia, while Turkey and North Macedonia both have one point ahead of their meeting.

Morocco face decisive final game

Morocco will meet North Macedonia on Wednesday, 26 August, in a match that could determine whether they progress to the semi-finals.

The top two teams in Group A will qualify for the last four, meaning Morocco need a positive result while also monitoring the outcome of the other group fixture.

Tunisia will face Turkey on the same day, with those two matches set to determine the final Group A standings and the two teams that advance to the semi-finals.
