Salah Mohsen gives Al Masry winning start against Smouha
Al Masry began their 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Smouha, thanks to a second-half goal from Salah Mohsen.
The result gave Al Masry all three points in the opening round and marked their first league win of the new season. Salah Mohsen’s finish was the decisive moment in a match in which Al Masry controlled much of the play but initially struggled to create clear chances.
New signings Abdullah Zayani and Khair El-Din Tawila both made their debuts for Al Masry during the match.
Al Masry dominated possession in the first half, although their control did not translate into significant danger in front of either goal. Smouha remained organised and limited the number of opportunities available to their opponents as the opening period ended without a goal.
The game became more open after the interval. Al Masry began to threaten with greater purpose, and Hisham Hafez came close in the 63rd minute when he unleashed a powerful effort that flew just wide of the Smouha goal.
Thirteen minutes later, Al Masry finally broke the deadlock. A cross found Salah Mohsen, who met the ball with a header. His effort struck the right-hand post before rebounding into the net to put Al Masry ahead in the 76th minute.
The goal was Salah Mohsen’s first in the Egyptian Premier League during the 2026-27 season. It proved enough to secure an important opening-day victory for Al Masry and ensured Smouha left without a point.
Al Masry will now turn their attention to their second league fixture, when they face Al Mokawloon Al Arab next Thursday. Smouha will also be looking for their first points of the campaign when they meet Assiut Petroleum on Wednesday.
Both teams will therefore enter the second round with different objectives. Al Masry will aim to build on a winning start after protecting their narrow lead, while Smouha will seek a response after being beaten by a single goal.
