Jean-Paul Akono’s tenure as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon is in jeopardy, with the Minister of Sports, Adoum Garoua, calling for applications to recruit a new coach. This move comes as a surprise, considering the previous unilateral appointment of Akono to rescue Cameroon from elimination in the CAN 2013.
Despite Akono’s efforts, Cameroon was eliminated by Cape Verde. His recent decisions, including the selection of players for a friendly match against Albania, have faced criticism. Akono is accused of dismissing players who allegedly disrespected him.
While Akono’s future is uncertain, the Ministry of Sports has left the door open for him to remain as head coach, stating that local coaches can also submit their applications for the position.
