Manchester United hand debuts to Andre Santos and Youri Tielemans against Hull City as Marcus Rashford starts on bench

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has named new midfield signings Andre Santos and Youri Tielemans in his starting line-up for their opening Premier League match against Hull City, with Marcus Rashford among the substitutes.

United begin their campaign away from home against Hull City, who have recently returned to the Premier League. Carrick has opted to start both midfield additions, with Santos arriving from Chelsea and Tielemans joining from Aston Villa.

The visitors’ team includes Senne Lammens in goal, while Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw make up the defence.

Andre Santos and Tielemans are joined in midfield by captain Bruno Fernandes. Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha form the attacking line.

Manchester United’s starting XI is:

Goalkeeper: Senne Lammens

Defenders: Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw

Midfielders: Andre Santos, Youri Tielemans, Bruno Fernandes

Forwards: Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha

Rashford is included among the substitutes but does not start the match. The bench also features Karl Darlow, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Shea Lacey, Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee.

The decision to select Santos and Tielemans from the beginning gives United a new-look central midfield for their first fixture of the season. Fernandes retains his place in the side, while Mbeumo and Cunha are selected in attack alongside Dorgu.

Hull City’s meeting with United is the opening Premier League assignment of the campaign for Carrick’s side and comes at the home ground of the club known as the Tigers.

The first result of the new Premier League season was recorded by Arsenal, the reigning champions, who defeated Coventry City 3-0 yesterday.

United will therefore hope to begin their campaign with a positive result on their return to competitive action, although Carrick has chosen to keep Rashford on the bench for the opening match.
