Egypt basketball’s Ahmed Adel ‘Dola’ faces initial ACL tear diagnosis

FilGoal.com understands that Egypt international basketball player Ahmed Adel “Dola” has been given an initial diagnosis of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

The Al Ittihad Alexandria player suffered the injury during Egypt’s friendly against Portugal at the national team’s training camp in Turkey. He is due to return to Egypt on Saturday, according to information obtained by FilGoal.com.

The diagnosis concerns a serious knee injury, although the report identifies it as an initial assessment. No further medical details were provided.

Ahmed Adel is part of a 15-player Egypt squad currently in Turkey. The group also includes Amr El Gendy, Omar Tarek, Ehab Amin, Anas Osama, Mido Taha, Malek Abou El Fotouh, Khaled Abdel Nasser, Ali Omar, Adam Moussa, Ibrahim Zahran, Omar El Sheikh, Hamdy Fathy, Patrick Gardner and Mehab Yasser.

The squad is being overseen by head coach Auguste Bus, with Alfred Bus and Ramy Geneidy serving as assistant coaches. The technical, administrative and medical staff also includes administrative director Sameh Salah, team doctor Islam Gomaa, performance analyst Abdel Rahman El Gallad, fitness coach Ahmed Fayek and recovery specialist Ali Moussa.

Mustafa Fawzi, a member of the Egyptian Basketball Federation board, is leading the national team’s delegation in Turkey.

Dola’s injury occurred during the friendly match with Portugal, while Egypt were preparing at their Turkish camp. His planned return to Egypt on Saturday comes after the first diagnosis of an ACL rupture, as the team continues its work with the player and medical staff assessing the injury.

The full Egypt delegation in Turkey is therefore made up of the 15 players, the coaching and support staff, and Fawzi as head of the national team’s travelling party. The player’s status was first reported by FilGoal.com, which also confirmed that he would travel back to Egypt the following day.

No timeframe for Ahmed Adel’s return to basketball has been announced in the report. The information available at this stage is limited to the initial diagnosis and his scheduled return to Egypt.
