Ajax reach agreement to sign Abdoulaye Camara from Udinese

Ajax Amsterdam have reached an agreement with Udinese to bring in Abdoulaye Camara on loan with an obligation to buy, according to Foot Mercato.

The move would take the Franco-Guinean midfielder to the Netherlands just months after he joined Udinese from Montpellier. Camara is contracted to the Italian club until 2029, but he has struggled to establish himself in the first team since arriving in 2025.

The young player has made only one Serie A appearance for Udinese. That came in May 2025 against Cremonese, when he was introduced from the bench during the closing stages of a 1-0 defeat.

Camara’s proposed switch to Amsterdam would therefore represent a significant change in direction for his career. His limited opportunities in Italy have restricted his progress at senior level, while a move to Ajax could provide a more suitable environment in which to develop.

The expectation is that Camara would have a better chance of securing regular playing time in the Netherlands. That opportunity could allow him to build confidence, gain experience and begin to fulfil his potential at the highest level.

For Camara, the immediate priority will be to use the transfer as the foundation for a fresh start. After being unable to make a sustained impact in Udinese’s first team, he will now hope to take advantage of the platform offered by one of European football’s best-known development clubs.

The agreement between Udinese and Ajax Amsterdam is for a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy, meaning the transfer is expected to become permanent provided the terms of the arrangement are met.

The timing of the move would also place Camara at Ajax as the club prepares for a European qualifying tie. Ajax are due to play the first leg of their UEFA Conference League qualifying play-off against FC Sion very soon.

According to the betting company 1xbet, Ajax are priced at 1.72 to win that match, with a draw listed at 4.10 and an FC Sion victory at 3.90. Those odds reflect Ajax’s status as favourites for the first leg, although Camara’s potential arrival remains part of a wider career decision rather than being directly linked to the outcome of the tie.

Camara’s departure from Udinese would bring an end to a short and difficult spell in Italy. Having arrived from Montpellier in 2025 and signed a contract running until 2029, he was unable to earn a regular role in the senior side. A move to Ajax now offers him the chance to restart his development in a new country and pursue the first-team involvement that has so far proved difficult to secure.
