Morocco’s U20 and U17 women begin Mediterranean Games journey in Italy
Morocco’s U20 men’s and U17 women’s national teams have travelled to Italy ahead of their participation in the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto.
The two squads departed Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Wednesday as they prepare to represent Morocco at the multi-sport event, which runs from 21 August to 3 September.
They are part of a 120-athlete Moroccan delegation competing across 18 sports.
U20 face Tunisia, Türkiye and North Macedonia
Morocco’s U20 side will compete in Group A of the men’s football tournament alongside Tunisia, Türkiye and North Macedonia.
The competition will provide the young Atlas Lions with an opportunity to test themselves against teams from across the Mediterranean region as they target a strong campaign in Italy.
The squad and coaching staff received final guidance after gathering at a hotel near Mohammed V International Airport before beginning their journey.
U17 women face Spain and Portugal
Morocco will also be represented in the women’s football competition by their U17 national team.
The young Atlas Lionesses have been placed in Group A alongside Spain and Portugal, setting up a demanding test for the Moroccan side.
The tournament will offer the players valuable international experience as they continue their development at youth level.
Morocco target strong showing in Taranto
The two football teams form part of Morocco’s wider delegation at the Mediterranean Games, with the country’s 120 athletes comprising 72 men and 48 women.
Attention will now turn to Taranto, where Morocco’s young footballers will look to make a strong impression and contribute to the country’s campaign at the regional sporting event.
For both teams, the tournament represents an opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience while representing Morocco on the international stage
