Breel Embolo turns down MLS move as Ipswich Town transfer nears

Breel Embolo has turned down a move to Major League Soccer and is now close to joining Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

The striker had been expected to sign for Atlanta United, but negotiations collapsed after he rejected the salary package offered by the American club.

An agreement between Rennes and Atlanta was reportedly worth around €17 million, potentially making the transfer one of the most expensive deals in MLS history. Despite that understanding between the clubs, Embolo preferred to continue his career in Europe rather than relocate to the United States.

His decision has opened the door for Ipswich, who have quickly moved into a strong position. The newly promoted English side have held advanced discussions with Embolo’s representatives and are reportedly willing to meet Rennes’ financial demands.

Ipswich have also submitted a contract proposal to the 29-year-old forward. If negotiations progress as expected, Embolo could soon return to the Premier League and lead the club’s attack during its top-flight campaign.

For Rennes, the situation remains positive despite Atlanta’s withdrawal. The French club could still receive the desired fee, while Embolo would secure an opportunity to remain in European football. The final agreement now depends on Ipswich completing talks with both the player and Rennes.
