AS Roma weigh Malick Fofana move while Rodrigo Mora deal takes priority
AS Roma are continuing talks with Olympique Lyonnais over Malick Fofana, but the Italian club will not make a final decision on the Belgium international until they have resolved their negotiations with FC Porto for Rodrigo Mora.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma remain in contact with Lyon and with Fofana’s representatives as they assess a potential move for the 20-year-old winger. Fofana is understood to be particularly interested in joining the Serie A club and moving to the Italian capital.
However, that mutual interest has not yet led to a firm decision from Roma. The club’s immediate priority is to complete an agreement with FC Porto for Rodrigo Mora, and the outcome of that operation is expected to have a significant influence on whether they proceed with a formal move for Fofana.
Roma are therefore continuing to monitor the situation carefully rather than committing themselves to the Lyon player. Their position could change once the discussions over Mora have been concluded.
The Italian club may also face increased competition for Fofana. Galatasaray have shown interest in the winger in recent days and could attempt to take advantage of Roma’s cautious approach by moving more quickly in the negotiations.
Fofana is consequently waiting to discover where he will continue his career, while Roma must decide whether to step up their pursuit after completing their business with Porto.
The player remains under contract with Olympique Lyonnais until June 2028. Transfermarkt values him at 30 million euros, while his reported annual salary is 2,730,000 euros, equivalent to 1,774,500,000 FCFA.
Fofana is a Belgian winger of Guinean origin and has become a sought-after figure during the current transfer discussions. Roma’s continued contact suggests the club has not abandoned the possibility of signing him, although the deal for Mora remains central to its planning.
Meanwhile, Lyon are preparing for a high-profile European fixture. Fenerbahce are due to face the French club in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off tie.
Betting company 1xBet lists Fenerbahce as the match favourite, with odds of 2.15 for a home victory. A draw is priced at 3.65, while a Lyon win is listed at 3.53.
