Taiwo Awoniyi completes Coventry City transfer

Coventry City have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest in a reported £9 million deal.

The 29-year-old has agreed to a permanent move after spending the past four seasons competing in the Premier League with Forest, where he scored 21 goals in 90 league appearances.

Awoniyi began his senior career with Liverpool before building experience through loan spells at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron and Gent. He later developed in Germany with Mainz and Union Berlin, eventually joining Union permanently in 2021.

His most productive campaign came in Berlin, where he scored 20 goals, including four in the UEFA Conference League. Those performances earned him a record transfer to Nottingham Forest in 2022. During his first season at the City Ground, he scored 11 goals and helped Forest avoid relegation while reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The Nigeria international, who has won 10 caps and scored twice for his country, is excited by the next chapter.

“I’m very happy to complete my move to Coventry City. I am very excited about this season, and I can’t wait to get started.”
