Yan Diomande underlines Real Madrid dribbling pedigree in Schalke friendly

Yan Diomande made an immediate impression on his Real Madrid debut, completing more dribbles than any other player during a 30-minute appearance in the club’s 3-0 friendly victory over Schalke.

The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger came on for Brahim Diaz in the 61st minute and produced three successful dribbles, highlighting the pace and direct attacking style that convinced Real Madrid to sign him from RB Leipzig.

According to Defensa Central, Diomande’s first appearance for the Spanish club could hardly have gone better. Although he was used as a substitute and played only half an hour, his total of three completed dribbles was the highest recorded by any player in the match.

That performance offered an early demonstration of the qualities Real Madrid have invested heavily in. The club completed Diomande’s transfer from RB Leipzig for an initial fee of 125m euros, with a further 15m euros potentially payable in add-ons.

Dribbling and the ability to create danger for opponents were among the Ivorian’s most notable strengths in the Bundesliga last season. His effectiveness in one-on-one situations was reflected in his leading position in a ranking measuring dribbling efficiency across Europe’s five major leagues.

The ranking included players who had attempted the highest number of dribbles during the previous campaign. Diomande recorded a success rate of 56.20%, and his performance against Schalke suggested that ability has transferred smoothly to his new surroundings.

Real Madrid controlled the match strongly and had already established a commanding position by the time Diomande entered the field. During the closing stages, however, he remained involved in the side’s attacking play, when the team had opportunities to extend its lead.

The teenager featured in several second-half attacks and displayed a strong understanding with Carlos Espe, who scored Real Madrid’s second goal. He also combined positively with Vinicius Junior, while Jude Bellingham continued to strengthen his increasingly prominent leadership role within the dressing room.

Diomande’s first minutes in a Real Madrid shirt were marked by confidence and composure. He was not the outstanding player of the match, but his cameo gave a clear indication of the contribution he may offer as the season develops.

The winger showed that he can make an impact in direct duels, use his speed to move beyond defenders and add a threat in the final third. His display also reinforced the belief that he can become more than a promising young addition to Real Madrid’s attack, with the potential to influence matches and score goals.
