Barcelona agree deal with Manchester City to sign Spain midfielder Rodri

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City over the signing of Spain midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez, widely known as Rodri, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester City have accepted Barcelona’s latest offer for the 30-year-old, with the deal set to take the reigning World Cup player of the tournament to the Spanish champions.

Barcelona had already tested City’s resolve with two previous bids. Their first proposal was worth €45m, while a second offer increased the figure to €60m. Both were rejected by Manchester City’s hierarchy.

The Catalan club then returned with a third bid worth more than €60m, and that proposal has now been accepted.

Rodri played a leading role in Spain’s success at the 2026 World Cup, helping his country defeat Argentina in the final. He was subsequently named the tournament’s best player, finishing ahead of Lionel Messi.

The midfielder is regarded as one of the most influential players in world football. His ability to control matches from a deep position has made him a central figure for both club and country, and he was instrumental in Spain’s run to the World Cup title.

Rodri has also enjoyed a highly successful spell at Manchester City since joining the club in 2019. During his time in England, he has won a number of major honours, including the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League.

He has made 298 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.

His move to Barcelona would bring an end to a distinguished period at the Etihad Stadium and see him return to Spanish football. The agreement follows a determined effort from Barcelona to secure the midfielder after their initial bids failed to meet Manchester City’s valuation.

Rodri’s performances for Manchester City have established him as one of the defining midfielders of his generation. His contribution to the club’s domestic and European success, combined with his importance to Spain, made him one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market.

Barcelona’s agreement with Manchester City represents the conclusion of negotiations that began with the €45m offer and progressed through the rejected €60m bid before the final proposal, worth more than €60m, was approved.

The Spain captain will now leave Manchester City after seven years at the club, having become a key part of their midfield and collected the biggest honours available at both club and international level.
