Marmoush named among Manchester City substitutes for Arsenal Community Shield showdown

Omar Marmoush will start on the bench for Manchester City against Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield, while Rodri has been left out of the squad amid reports he is close to joining Barcelona this summer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has selected an attacking starting XI for the meeting, with Noni Madueke, Christos Tzolis and Kai Havertz forming the front three.

David Raya will start in goal for Arsenal, with Ben White, Gabriel and Cristhian Mosquera making up the central defensive options in the selected line-up. Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly are also included.

Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Ødegaard have been named in midfield, while Madueke, Tzolis and Havertz complete the side.

Arsenal’s starting XI is:

David Raya; Ben White, Gabriel, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Ødegaard, Noni Madueke, Christos Tzolis, Kai Havertz.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has also opted for a strong line-up for the Community Shield, with several of the club’s leading players named from the start.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is in goal, protected by Abdukodir Khusanov, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol. O’Reilly is also included in the defensive unit.

Mateo Kovacic and Anderson will operate in midfield, while the attacking group consists of Semenyo, Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland.

Marmoush, the Egypt forward, will begin the match among City’s substitutes and could be introduced during the contest. Rodri, however, has been excluded from the squad altogether.

The Community Shield meeting brings Arsenal and Manchester City together in a high-profile opening fixture, with both managers naming sides featuring significant attacking quality.

Arteta’s selection places responsibility on Madueke, Tzolis and Havertz to lead Arsenal’s threat, while City will look to Foden, Doku and Haaland to provide the main attacking impetus.

The most notable selection decision involving an Egyptian international is Marmoush’s place on the substitutes’ bench. He has not been included among Maresca’s starters for the match, while Rodri’s absence is linked to his reported potential move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Both teams’ confirmed line-ups were announced before kick-off, setting the stage for the Community Shield clash at the start of the new campaign.
