Ethan Brooks returns to South Africa as Durban City make midfield signing

South Africa midfielder Ethan Brooks has joined Durban City FC from Greek club Panserraikos, completing a move that brings the 24-year-old back to the Betway Premiership.

Brooks, who plays in central midfield, made the switch on 15 August 2026 after spending the previous season with Panserraikos in Greece’s Super League 2. He had joined the Greek side in September 2025, having been without a club after leaving AmaZulu FC earlier that year.

The Johannesburg-born player returns to a division where he has recorded 109 appearances, three goals and two assists. His league record also includes 6,027 minutes of action, underlining his experience at domestic level before his move abroad.

Brooks began his senior club career with TS Galaxy FC, joining the club in July 2019. He moved to AmaZulu FC three years later and remained there until July 2025, when his spell with the club ended.

His move to Panserraikos followed his departure from AmaZulu, and he spent the 2025-26 campaign in Greece before securing a return to South African football. During his career, Brooks has also made appearances in the Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, MTN8 and Super League play-out, as well as featuring in Super League 1.

Durban City’s new midfielder has played 16 matches in Super League 1, registering one assist, while his domestic cup record includes seven Nedbank Cup appearances and three matches in both the Carling Knockout and MTN8. He also made two appearances in the Super League play-out.

At 1.75m, Brooks is listed primarily as a central midfielder and joins Durban City with a market value of €600,000. His highest recorded market value was €1m in 2025, before his move to Panserraikos.

The transfer gives Brooks a return to the country of his birth after his year in Greece. He previously represented AmaZulu and TS Galaxy in South Africa before taking up the opportunity to continue his career overseas.

Brooks has now completed his move from Panserraikos to Durban City FC and is part of the club’s squad for the 2026-27 season.
