NFF sets up fact-finding committee after Super Falcons miss 2027 World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s recent struggles in international football, following the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The decision comes in the aftermath of Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Falcons suffered a double setback that ended their hopes of securing a place at the next Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria were eliminated by Cameroon in the quarter-finals before suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the subsequent playoff for a spot in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

The result brought an end to Nigeria’s remarkable record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the tournament was first held in 1991.

The NFF said the newly constituted committee will investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent setbacks involving Nigeria’s national teams and make recommendations aimed at preventing similar disappointments in future international competitions.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, has been appointed chairperson of the committee. Former Nigeria internationals Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie and Mutiu Adepoju will serve as members, alongside Dr Alex Mana.

Nasiru Jibril has been appointed secretary to the committee.

The federation expects the committee to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the factors behind the recent poor results and propose practical measures to strengthen Nigeria’s national teams.

According to the NFF, the committee’s findings will form the basis for reforms and other measures designed to improve the performance of the national teams and help Nigeria achieve better results in future international competitions.

The development reflects the federation’s determination to address the setbacks and ensure that Nigeria’s national teams return to a stronger footing on the international stage.
